About Maya
Maya Eventov grew up in the formerly known city of Leningrad which was part of the Soviet Union. Now, Leningrad is known as St. Petersburg, it's also know for being a city of beauty and culture. Living behind the iron curtain was difficult, however, Maya was exposed to some of the finest art in St. Petersburg. She once said:
“I lived behind the iron curtain, but we had rich collections of works available for viewing at the Hermitage and Russian Museum as well as many other Leningrad museums."
This exposure to great works of art was where she began to develop a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of the artists and their works. As well as this more technical understanding, it also allowed her to gain an appreciation for many of the great masters of art Europe has been home to.
Artist Education
Eventov has had a passion and found interest in art since she was a young girl. She was studying art, in some manner, since she was 6 years old. She was accepted by High School #190, which was a prestigious school and was an affiliate of the St. Petersburg State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts. Whilst she was a student, she took part in a number of different student art exhibitions, by 18, her abstract composition was accepted to the Academy's Museum.
Young Adult Life
By 1987 she had graduated with a master's degree in graphic design. Post graduation she worked as an illustrator for Children's books. Maya immigrated to Canada in the early 1990's, after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
This new life gave her freedom to explore her own ideas and to move away from the classical painting style she had studied in St. Petersburg. She said:
“I’m happy person; I enjoy beautiful flowers and landscapes. I am captivated by smells and colours that convey strength of emotion in a happy painting.”

She has also featured in galleries in the USA and Britain.
